Inside Indigo 8. In Conversation with Milla Lascelles
On retreats, travel and supplements
1. What are your travel essentials?
Changeable with the year, but right now, if I were to travel, it would be coconut oil, as I’ve started oil pulling first thing, copper lounge scraper with Gutology toothpaste. Earplugs are always a must, as are an eye mask these days, and I like to travel with an alarm clock so I don’t have to rely on my phone. I’m always trying new products, and I’m trying to go fragrance-free now, so I like Fierce Nature Pure Organic Tallow or the Bamford Calendula body oil. I also started using Sweet Bee back in the early days when they had just begun after my Mum found them online and gave me their magnesium foot butter in my stocking. Now they are a client and I still use the balm.

2. A supplement you can’t do without?
During the winter it’s a high dose of Biocare vitamin D, Bare Biology Omega 3 and Mighty Kids Vitamin C. My son takes it too, they are designed for the whole family and their Liposomal which means they have higher absorption rates.
3. You’ve run wellness retreats in Morocco and the UK—what’s a detail you believe makes or breaks a retreat’s transformative impact?
I believe the fellow retreaters on the retreat are really important. I love meeting like-minded people when I go on retreats from all walks of life. I find it energising, and it makes me happy to connect like that in a world so heavily governed by screens and AI. I recently went on a retreat with Jillian Lavender and Michael Miller from London Meditation Centre to 42 Acres, where I was in a dorm, which I loved. On the last night, we all sat around a fire in the middle of a rewilding estate, and I thought how crazy it was that this was so rare now; once upon a time, people would have been doing this most nights. We are losing that connection. Social Media tricks us into thinking we are connecting, but really, it’s isolating. I left the retreat feeling very full. It’s all about community.

4. With your background in health coaching, how do you weave personalised wellness into your own travel itinerary?
I tend to just go with it when I’m on holiday. I wouldn’t be in a restaurant at night with my amber lenses on but I would be wearing them on the plane. You’ve got to drop your shoulders and just be away when you're travelling and soak it all in.
5. Who in the Health industry are you really following at the moment?
I am completely obsessed with Dr Jenny Goodman an Ecological medicine doctor who I believe should be on the front of every newspaper. I have both her books, ‘Getting Healthy in Toxic Times’ and ‘Staying Alive in Toxic Times: A Seasonal Guide to Lifelong Health.’ Her knowledge and advice is invaluable and we all have to start understanding toxic metals and ways to avoid exposure. We also work with HOOKE London so I feel very grateful I get to hear and see their expertise on a regular basis.
6. Your favourite place?
Milla on Islay, Scotland
I’ve been going to Islay, Scotland, since I was born. Islay sits off the west coast of Scotland, part of the Inner Hebrides. It’s a small island, but well known for its whisky distilleries, wide beaches and big skies and open landscapes. You reach it by a short flight from Glasgow or by ferry from Kennacraig on the mainland. Once you’re there, it feels remote in the best possible way.
