Family-run and located in 1,000 acres of woodland and wild lands on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, Fritton Lake, part of Somerleyton Estate, is a private holiday club with a conscience. Whether you want to escape endless hours on your computer, take the kids on a nature safari or try wild swimming, this is a sustainable staycation truly immersed in nature.
Woodland Retreats, Farmhouse Cottages and ‘The Clubhouse’ hotel and restaurant are scattered along a 2-mile stretch of lake, with its own floating sauna. Members, owners and guests can enjoy a range of land and water-based activities, from trail running, yoga and tennis to rowing, paddle boarding and sailing - all surrounded by rich wildlife and abundant nature. There are also dedicated Triathlon training weekends, on site stables (you can even bring your own pony on holiday) and a lovely 22m outdoor heated swimming pool.
Under the mantle of the charitable initiative, WildEast (co-founded by Fritton’s owner Hugh Somerleyton), the mantra, ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’, underpins Fritton’s ethos and can be witnessed in everything from the use of renewable energy sources to the local, seasonal food – much of it grown on the estate.
