I Ketut Sena Appointed Resort Manager at Four Seasons Bali
A member of the team at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan since 2000, I Ketut Sena has been instrumental in helping to define the award-winning experience of one of the world's most iconic properties. Now, his exceptional business acumen, natural warmth and people management skills are set to shine in his new role as Resort Manager, sharing the gifts of his homeland with guests from across the globe.
Sena is the first native Balinese to rise to the ranks of Resort Manager at the river valley haven. Throughout his time with Four Seasons – and his 33 years in total in hospitality – Sena has carved an extraordinary career path, taking the same dedicated interest in every one of his varied roles. This inside-out understanding of the hotel’s operations and logistics, combined with his commitment to honouring Bali’s unique heritage, makes Sena the perfect choice for the next chapter of Sayan’s story.
“It’s a privilege to hold this position,” he comments with typical humility. “Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has been part of my life for more than two decades. It’s an extraordinary resort that honours the culture of Bali and touches all who visit. From signature experiences such as visits to meet local farmers, to our Pilgrim Temple Voyage, Balinese cooking, dance and arts classes, and immersive wellness experiences, we are dedicated to offering a deep connection to the authentic soul and traditions of this magical island.”
Sena career path began in Tebongkang, the small village in which he was born and raised. While close to the bustling tourist destination of Ubud, Tebongkang remains a tranquil place, with a rich culture and well-preserved traditions; farming remains the primary occupation for most residents. Accompanying his father to the rice fields where he played as a child, Sena often encountered tourists who were intrigued by their way of life. Learning about different cultures sparked a dream for Sena: to work in the hospitality industry, sharing meaningful experiences with people from around the world.
Following a diploma in housekeeping, Sena worked for many years at the Grand Hyatt Bali in various roles before joining Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. Yet he still draws on the deeply embedded values of his early years. “I have a deep love for my village,” he says. “The peaceful ambience and close-knit community are continual sources of inspiration and rejuvenation for me.”
Throughout his twenty-four years at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Sena has worked across many departments including Housekeeping, Front Office, Security and Rooms Operations, gaining acclaim for his outstanding management skills, emotional intelligence, and team leadership. Projects he’s been involved with over the years include the Resort’s refurbishment in 2013 as well as the launch of activities such as Jungle Biathlon and Cycling Tours; Rafting on Bali's Longest River, and the mesmerising Can You Keep A Secret Tour.
Drawing on his decades of knowledge and skills, Sena’s new role as Resort Manager involves overseeing more than 300 employees, alongside the Resort’s award-winning accommodation, dining outlets and facilities, and more than 73,000 guests per year. Looking to the future with his trademark calm confidence, Sena has plans to immerse guests further in Balinese traditions through temple and art gallery tours, with the launch of a new Sacred River Spa menu also on the horizon.
As phenomenal as his career growth has been, Sena’s vision remains grounded in a reverent Balinese ethos to life. “I’m passionate about creating a working environment that feels like a second home for all employees, fostering a supportive and caring atmosphere through open communication and sincerity, in line with the principles at the heart of Balinese culture,” he says. “By supporting every employee to feel good and deliver their very best, my team and I are dedicated to ensuring that our guests experience the true beauty of Bali – and make memories to last a lifetime.”
As ever-evolving as its riverside location, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan welcomes further exciting developments alongside the appointment of Sena as Resort Manager. A new Mediterranean concept at Riverside restaurant offers al fresco “bistronomy” dining experiences celebrating the culinary treasures of Italy, Spain, France, Lebanon and Greece. Over at Jati Bar, a vibrant tableau of rainforest and paddy fields provides the backdrop to Mixology Masterclasses crafting farm-to-glass cocktails with the freshest homegrown fruits, botanicals and herbs from the onsite gardens and neighbouring farms.
