Springwatch Comes To Alladale

Nature in the Scottish Highlands will be captured in its full glory this month, when Springwatch films live from Alladale Wilderness Reserve Presenter Iolo Williams will enjoy the solitude afforded by The Highlands when the popular series returns to BBC 2, from Tuesday 25 May.

This year, BBC Springwatch is looking forward, working to keep the UK connected to our native wildlife with three weeks of live programmes. With an overarching theme of ‘A Vision for the Future’, Springwatch will present a vision of hope, inspiration, beauty and co-existence, brought to the audience from every Nation in the British Isles.

With its diverse wildlife, vibrant colours and natural adventures, Alladale offers the perfect backdrop. The reserve is set in the most stunning landscapes that Scotland has to offer from glacial mountains to forests, rivers and lochs, and is home to a range of iconic Scottish wildlife. Excitingly the Alladale team are involved in the RZSS Wildcat captive breeding and reintroduction project, and the Springwatch cameras hope to follow their progress.

Alladale is also home to some great bird species; Black Grouse, Ptarmigan, Dotterel, Curlew, Golden Plover, Dunlin and House Martins. Golden Eagles have also often been spotted soaring over the glen.Mammals also have their place in the varied ecosystem at Alladale. Red Deer, Pine Martens, Mountain Hares and Red Squirrels are just some of the animals on the wish-list.

As the UK gradually emerges from a year like no other, Springwatch is here to remind us all how important nature has been in our recovery. Never before have we appreciated the natural world more or have we taken such an interest in the environment around us.Alladale will appear on Springwatch between Tuesday 25 May and Friday 11 June 2021.
