Benefits of a Spring Fast

Spring is our time to take stock, move forward and address those niggling health issues that seem to zap our energy in winter.  It is also a great time to fast.  If you can't get to the Original FX Mayr this spring, head Physician Dr Ursula Muntean-Rock explains one of the simplest ways to fast, 'Dinner Cancelling'.

Fasting not only cleanses and detoxes the body, it also calms the mind and creates space for physical and mental balance.

WHAT FASTING MEANS FOR THE BODY
There are approximately 180 physical mechanisms that benefit from fasting. Cell renewal begins after just 15 hours without food intake (via dinner cancelling or intermittent fasting). Sugar and fat deposits are broken down and toxins are flushed from the body.

Dr. Ursula Muntean-Rock, Original FX Mayr's head physician explains: "Anyone who periodically abstains from eating any solid food after 5.00 p.m. doesn’t just keep their weight in check, but also strengthens their powers of self-healing and slows down the ageing process. The digestive system is relieved, the nutrients can be better absorbed and all this has a positive effect on our immune system and the body’s defences".

Dinner cancelling is also a sound strategy for weight loss. And you really don’t need to deprive yourself of food every evening - just twice a week actually delivers very similar results.  Dr Muntean-Rock adds "When you abstain from eating your evening meal, slight hypoglycemia occurs during the night. In the first instance, this aids weight loss and stimulates the pituitary gland to disburse growth hormones in the early morning hours. This, in turn, slows down the ageing process"

FASTING STIMULATES CELL RENEWAL
Dr. Ursula Muntean-Rock
explains "Scientific research is increasingly focusing on the cell renewal process triggered by fasting. This so-called autophagy (from the Greek “autophagous” - consuming itself) plays a vital role in various diseases and also in the ageing process. During fasting, the cell can ‘clean up’ and ‘declutter’ itself.

WHAT FASTING MEANS FOR THE MIND
Besides the many physical changes and improvements, fasting can have a positive effect on our state of mind.  The act of fasting itself can help you to discover more about yourself. Many Mayr guests find their stay offers them time to process their lives and big events, or make decisions about their futures, build inner confidence and develop new ideas, inspirations and clarity.

Claudia Waldner, Original FX Mayr Cure Coach provides a helpful tip to get you focused: "Guided meditations and mindfulness exercises are perfect for bringing you back into the moment to realign your focus, overcome stressful times and set new intentions. Here is a short 3-minute meditation that you can easily follow at home".

However, The Original FX Mayr in Austria has made fasting simple with their Mayr Deep Detox module.  Designed to intensify the effects of fasting, it helps to strengthen your intestinal health, relax your central nervous system, shed excess weight and recharge your batteries.  It also regulates the body's acid-base balance.
