Somerset-Based TEALS Shortlisted For Award

Within just weeks of opening, new Somerset farm store TEALS, has been shortlisted for an award. Celebrating the UK’s finest speciality retailers, the 2021 Farm Shop & Deli Awards are held in partnership with The Grocer, with winners being announced in July.  TEALS, which opened on the A303 in December, has been shortlisted in the Farm Shop category in the South West region.

Representing nine regions across the UK (East Anglia, Midlands, North East, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South East, South West & Wales), the Awards recognise the courageous commitment shown by speciality retailers to their customers, community, staff and suppliers this past year.

TEALS, which is also featuring soon on ITV News West Country, is a one-stop-shop for high quality, individually sourced gifts and treats, all with a story to tell. It's all about the joy of discovery and the team has sourced and curated a wonderful collection of fresh-name brands from the South West and beyond. Reflecting the philosophy of TEALS itself, as well as promoting the sort of business models our future world needs, most of these brands are small batch, family-run, artisan and with a strong ethical ethos.

During lockdown, TEALS' food market, deli, bakery, cheesemongers and butchers are open from 8am - 4pm, 7 days a week. While 'eating in' restrictions are in place, TEALS has launched a range of fabulous time (and effort) saving takeaways: 'Sunday 3 Ways' weekly roast boxes (they do the prep, you just cook it); daily one-pot Teals Meals and Feel Good Fridays, with tasty pizzas and burgers.

Co-founder Ash Sinfield said, “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for an award so soon after opening. It’s an accolade to the whole team’s commitment and work over this very challenging period and we are proud to be supporting so many local suppliers and businesses in the process".

This year the Awards, which are sponsored by Garofalo and Food & Drink Wales, received an amazing 153 entries. These are now being evaluated by an expert judging panel led by broadcaster and journalist Nigel Barden, to determine the ‘Commended Retailers’ and ‘Best in Region Winners’ across the UK.

Nigel is joined in the exacting process by food writer and co-chair Elaine Lemm, plus a line-up of judges which include: Editor at British Baker, Amy North; Fresh Foods Reporter at The Grocer, Henry Sandercock; Branch Manager for Paxton & Whitfield Jermyn Street, London, Hero Hirsh; Head of Trading and Marketing for Booths, John Gill and Head of consultancy business Delicious Planet, Victoria Robertshaw. The judges also include previous Retailer of the Year winners.

The live announcement will take place at 3pm on Monday 5th July at the Farm Shop & Deli Show, NEC Birmingham, which brings together the great and good of the speciality market to celebrate the very best of British produce. Free registration for the event will open soon at: www.farmshopanddelishow.co.uk and a full list of shortlisted retailers can be found here.
