Journeys With Purpose conservation trip to Belize

• Conservation travel specialist, Journeys With Purpose, releases its first journey for 2024 - to discover three of Belize’s biomes, from the tropical jungle and elevated pine forest to the mighty barrier reef.
• The trip will be hosted by Roni Martinez, Belize’s top nature guide and Paul Lister, founder of The European Nature Trust (TENT) and custodian of Alladale Wilderness Reserve.
• Seek encounters with the country’s diverse wildlife including the threatened Scarlet Macaw, the mighty jaguar and dozens of other species.

Conservation travel specialist, Journeys With Purpose, has released its first journey for 2024. Guests are invited to spend eight nights at the forefront of nature restoration across Belize’s three biomes hosted by the global changemakers that drive them. With a population of just 400,000 inhabitants, Belize is a remarkable example of what can be achieved with a united, nationwide-intent for environmental stewardship - 36 percent of Belize’s land and 28 percent of its water is already protected.

Guests will be hosted by Paul Lister, founder of The European Nature Trust (TENT) and custodian of Alladale Wilderness Reserve, who will offer a global perspective on the nation’s projects and their learnings. Roni Martinez, Belize’s top nature guide and conservation specialist, guests will introduce the group to the native species of concern - neotropical migrant birds and all five Central American wild cats - and how the nation is working to protect them. Both hosts will accompany guests throughout their trip offering them a chance to connect, discuss and understand the impact that can be achieved when communities work in harmony with biodiversity.

Journeys With Purpose brings together some of the world’s most ambitious conservationists, biologists and community leaders. Guests will also connect with:

• Elma Kay, Managing Director of Belize Maya Forest Trust - the key driver of the groundbreaking forest protection deal. Guests will gain greater understanding of the surrounding forest and the key role it plays in preserving forest connectivity for vital species between the Amazon and Selva Maya.
• Dr. Marcella Kelly of Virginia Tech, one of the world's leading jaguar specialists - Dr. Kelly has introduced infrared technology to collect data on the elusive, endangered jaguar following the threat of illegal hunting and habitat loss. The project is a 20 year endeavour and the longest standing big cat monitoring programme in the world.
• Rafael Manzanero, Executive Director of Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) - FCD co-manages the Chiquibil Forest one of the largest protected area in Belize, with the largest cave system in Central America. Their work includes environmental education, enforcement and patrols, research, bi-national relations, and extension services. The organisation oversees the protection of the endangered Scarlet Macaw from international poachers.
• Valdemar Andrade, Executive Director of Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA). TASA works to protect and preserve the fragile and diverse ecosystems of Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve through research, fisheries management, enforcement, and communications

‍Guests will be able to get up close with our remarkable hosts who are doing so much to protect the spectacular nature of Belize. The journey will see exploration in the Maya Forest, boat expeditions along the Macal River in search of the critically endangered Scarlet Macaws, sundowners at Laguna Verde and night hikes to spot nocturnal wildlife.  Guests can swim in staggering waterfalls, ride across the tropical savannah on horseback and sample the flavours from organic farms. The final stop at Turneffe Atoll, the largest atoll in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, will see guests take to the water with local fishermen to learn the sustainable practices they use to protect the longevity of their marine life; with the opportunity of spotting the West Indian manatee and salt water North America Crocodile

‍The ultra-exclusive journey takes place from 23rd February - 2nd March 2024 with prices starting from $12,950 per person based on two people sharing and excluding international flights. The price includes full board and a 20% donation to the hosting conservation projects.
